AL Ahli Tripoli to the BAL semis
Al Ahli Tripoli delivered a statement win when it mattered most. After a frustrating loss in the group stage, the Libyan champions responded with authority, beating Kriol Star 107–81 to advance to the semifinals of the 2025 Basketball Africa League.
At the heart of their calm and consistent execution during this whole tournament is Jean Jacques Boissy, the 25-year-old Senegalese point guard who has been instrumental throughout the competition.
“I think it all starts with hard work. Then comes God. And also, the chemistry in this team is really good,” Boissy told Seneweb/VSport.
“Each game, we try to find who’s hot and give him the ball. It’s a good group, and I feel like I belong here.”
From setback to collective response
The team’s bounce-back after a disappointing performance just two days earlier didn’t happen by chance. According to Boissy, it was the product of honest conversations and a united mindset.
“It was a strong team performance,” he said.
“We were coming off a loss, and we had to show what kind of spirit we really have. This win was built after the loss, starting with the meetings we had with the coach. I’m proud of this team.”
No distractions — only the next game
Now in his third season in the BAL, Boissy knows the importance of staying grounded. Even after helping his team reach the final four of Africa’s premier basketball stage, his focus doesn’t waver.
“This is my third year, so I’ve got some experience in this league,” he said.
“Right now, I’m just focused on the next game. I take every game as a must-win. There’s no final yet. I’m only thinking about what comes next.”
