Boston’s dominance on both ends
The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals.
The Celtics are seeking their first title since 2008 and were coming from a 10-day layoff (after they swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern conference finals.) BUT they showed NO RUST!
They dominated on both ends of the floor: They closed the first quarter with a 17 point lead, which grew to 21 point at halftime. The Celtics led by as many as 29 points. The Mavericks were able to cut Boston’s lead to 8 in the 3rd quarter but the Celtics responded with a 14-0 run.
The Porzingis factor
It was all about the Porzingis factor.
What an explosive return for Kristaps, the 7-footer from Latvia. After missing 10 playoff games with a calf injury, he came off the bench for just the 2nd time in his career and had 20 points in about 20 minutes on the court, but also 3 blocks and 6 rebounds. In the post game presser he said “Tonight was an affirmation to myself that I am pretty good. Maybe I am not perfect but I can play like this and add to this team.”
The big man also admitted that the adrenaline was pumping through his veins, which was a good thing.
Tatum feeling like a little kid on his first day of school
The atmosphere at TD Garden in Boston was electric. All Star Jayson Tatum told me after the game he was feeling super excited, just like a little kid on his first day of school, trying to dominate pressure and responsibility. He finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Jalen Brown had 22 points and an amazing performance.
