The Milwaukee Bucks won the 2024 NBA Cup on Tuesday, pulling away from the cold-shooting Oklahoma City Thunder for a 97-81 victory in the tournament’s title game in Las Vegas.
Star duo: Antetokounmpo-Lillard
The Bucks’ star duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard led the way, combining for 49 points as Milwaukee capped off a perfect 7-0 run in NBA Cup play.

Giannis Antetokounmpo MVP
Giannis, who had a triple-double (26 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists) in the championship game, was named the tournament’s MVP.
Reflecting on the achievement, he shared, “Winning is the best feeling ever, but it’s not only about the game. It’s about everything leading up to the game. The way you prep your body. The anxiety you feel. It all makes the win even better.”

The Money Prize
The Bucks players aren’t just going home with a new trophy but also with a lucrative payday. Each player earned a $514,971 bonus as the NBA increased its Cup prize money this year.
In the locker room, Brook Lopez joked, “It’s rare to leave Vegas with an extra 500k.”
People call this place ‘Lost Wages,’ but not tonight.

Bucks: Oldest team’s dominance
Milwaukee outplayed Oklahoma City in several key areas, particularly at the three-point line, in rebounds, and by exploiting their size advantage in the paint. While the Thunder, the league’s fourth-youngest team (average age 24.9), have proven to be a defensive powerhouse, their hunger wasn’t enough to overcome the Bucks, who boast the NBA’s oldest roster (average age 30.2).

Thunder miss 85% 3-pointers
The Thunder, known for their gritty defense, struggled offensively, making just 15% of their three-pointers.
Revenge
In contrast, Milwaukee’s execution and experience shone through, especially in the second half. “This was probably our best game of the year,” said MarJon Beauchamp. “Last year we were here in the semifinals, and this feels good to be on the other side. It’s legendary, and it brings us closer to the bigger title.”
Damian Lillard, who scored 23 points, was instrumental alongside Giannis. Their chemistry continues to evolve, and their leadership is setting the tone for Milwaukee’s season.

Chemistry
As Bobby Portis Jr. noted, “It feels amazing. Playing in big-time, meaningful games like this is what you want as a basketball player. We’ve built chemistry and camaraderie that will carry us forward.”
OKC consolation prize
The Thunder, despite the loss, won’t go home empty-handed, with each player receiving almost $206,000 for their efforts.
Playing in Vegas
Reflecting on the unique environment in Las Vegas, Andre Jackson Jr. said, “It was different—a neutral crowd that made it special. I definitely enjoyed it.” With their NBA Cup triumph, the Bucks have set the tone for the rest of their season.
Giannis, already leading the league in scoring with 32.7 points per game, continues to amaze with his growth. “He’s always hungry, never complacent,” said Lopez. “You just have to follow his lead.” Milwaukee’s performance in Las Vegas served as a statement. This is a team with championship aspirations, and their journey is only just beginning.
