In an exclusive interview, Tidjane Salaün opened up about his journey, ambitions, and the lessons he has learned in his first months as a professional basketball player. Displaying remarkable maturity for his age, he shares powerful messages for young athletes aspiring to follow in his footsteps.
“Basketball Without Borders can change a career,” he explains. “It’s a camp that brings together a lot of talented players from around the world. You get noticed by scouts and NBA teams, and it can really impact the start of your career.” This opportunity played a crucial role in his rise, helping him gain recognition and showcase his potential.
Reflecting on the moment he was drafted into the NBA, Tidjane recalls with emotion, “It was an unforgettable moment for me, my family, and everyone around me. It was the result of a lot of hard work and sacrifices, but also the beginning of a new chapter.”
His time in the G League has been a key step in his development. “I feel more comfortable with my body now. Playing in the G League helped me learn how to use my physicality and better understand how I can impact the game at the NBA level.” He emphasizes the importance of mindset: “You have to work hard every day, even when you think everything is going well. Nothing is guaranteed, and things can change very quickly. But if you stay focused and positive, your hard work will eventually pay off.”
One of his most significant acknowledgments came from Victor Wembanyama, who described him as a determined and hardworking player. “It’s real. No matter the ups and downs, I always keep the same mentality. I want to be the best, and I will never give up.”
Finally, Tidjane spoke about his eating habits in the U.S.: “I would have preferred French food, but I make do. Before a game at night, I only eat at noon and then just have a small snack, like fruit or pancakes. After that, I’m ready.”
With his relentless work ethic, determination, and eagerness to learn, Tidjane Salaün serves as a role model for many young players. His journey and words stand as a true source of inspiration for those who dream of reaching the highest level of basketball.
