An International League competing with the NBA: A Visionary Idea?
When asked about the proposal for an international league aiming to compete with the NBA, Gobert sees exciting potential in the idea. The project, reported by ESPN and Bloomberg, is supported by a group of investors aiming to raise $5 billion to create a new league with. Six men’s teams and six women’s teams playing matches around the globe. Maverick Carter, business partner of LeBron James, is acting as an advisor for the project. LeBron himself is not involved.
“I think it could be a very good idea. Of course, the NBA is definitely the best league in the world, but there is so much talent everywhere and basketball fans worldwide. Matches around the globe could create a unique dynamic.”
This project recalls past efforts to expand basketball’s horizons, but its scope and ambition would make it a first in the sport’s history.

Advice for Overcoming Challenges
Having grown up in France before becoming a global star, Rudy Gobert shares advice for young aspirants in any field: “Believe in yourself, even if no one else does. Discipline is key: work harder than others, keep learning, and be ready to make sacrifices to achieve your dreams.”
A Constantly Evolving NBA
Since entering the NBA in 2013, Gobert has witnessed significant changes in the game.
“The game has evolved a lot. The speed is much faster, and centers like me are now working on our three-point shooting. We’re seeing players like Victor Wembanyama and Kristaps Porziņģis redefine what a big man can do. This pushes young players to raise their game, and today, talent has never been higher.”

Rudy Gobert has high praise for his young teammate Anthony Edwards, who has been compared to Michael Jordan:
“He’s the real deal, a great competitor who speaks his mind. He has incredible energy, both on and off the court. It’s a pleasure to be there for him, to guide him, and be a mentor.”
As advice, Gobert stresses the importance of focus and hard work: “If he wants to become a superstar and win titles, it will require extra sacrifices. But I believe he can do it.”
