Also in French on Seneweb.

Tidjane’s journey

In an exclusive interview, Tidjane Salaün opened up about his journey, ambitions, and the lessons he’s learned in his first months as a professional player. At just 19 years old, he displays remarkable maturity and shares powerful messages for young basketball players aspiring to follow in his footsteps.

“Basketball Without Borders can change a career,” he explains. “It’s a camp that brings together a lot of talent from around the world. You’re scouted by NBA teams, and it can really impact the start of your career.”

This opportunity played a crucial role in his rise, helping him gain visibility and showcase his potential.

Great improvement

Since March 2, the Charlotte Hornets forward has averaged 7.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, shooting an impressive 53.8% from the field and 52.9% from three-point range. After a challenging start, his transformation has been remarkable.

Reflecting on his NBA Draft night, Tidjane recalls the emotional moment:
“It was unforgettable for me, my family, and everyone around me. It’s the result of a lot of hard work and sacrifices, but also the beginning of a new chapter.”

The value of the G League

Spending time in the G League was a turning point in his development. “I feel more comfortable with my body now. Playing in the G League helped me learn how to use my physicality and better understand how I can impact the game in the NBA.”

Tidjane’s Mindset

He emphasizes the importance of mentality:
“You have to work hard every day, even when you think everything is going well. Nothing is guaranteed; everything can change quickly. But if you stay focused and positive, your work will eventually pay off.”

One of the biggest acknowledgments for him came from Victor Wembanyama, who described him as a fighter and hard worker. Salaün humbly agrees: “That’s real. No matter the ups and downs, I always keep the same mindset. I want to be the best, and I will never give up.”

Diet

On adjusting to life in the U.S., he shares a lighthearted take on food: “I’d prefer French food, but we make do. Before a night game, I only eat at noon, then just a small snack like fruit or pancakes. Then, I’m ready.”

With his relentless work ethic, determination, and eagerness to learn, Tidjane Salaün is proving to be a role model for many young players. His journey and mindset serve as an inspiration for those dreaming of reaching the highest level of basketball.
